How to improve website performance with Sitespeed.io

Speed Matters

Why?

Before coming to how, let’s talk about why focusing on your website performance is the single most important thing. Do you know that 79% of the online shoppers who had trouble with the website performance say that they never returned to that website? A one second delay in page response on an ecommerce website results in 7% reduction in conversions. Website performance plays a crucial role in customer experience & satisfaction. Let’s consider a scenario where you are shopping online on a website that is taking forever to load. Obviously it’s frustrating and you will lose your interest quickly . That’s exactly what users browsing your services / products feel if you haven’t considered improving your website performance.

How can Sitespeed help?

There are many tools in the market to analyze and suggest the steps to improve the website performance. Some of them are GTmetrix, webpagetest, webmaster tools etc.

I personally prefer speedsite.io as it offers additional controls such as-

  1. Crawls many web pages and generate customizable performance reports.
  2. Most tools allow you to test pages that are online only. Sitespeed.io provides the enhanced functionality to test the performance of your local websites at each stage of the build.
  3. Continuous integration with Jenkins.
  4. Testing the website against web performance best practices.
  5. Testing both desktop and mobile sites.
  6. The best part – It’s an open source tool & absolutely free

Great tips. Content delivery network (CDN) is necessary to reduced load speed of a website and the rest you can optimise using htaccess. We brought our site load speed to 0.4 sec without using any plugins and external tools.
