Client is a leading Romanian cosmetics company specializing in a wide range of skincare, beauty, and wellness products, inclined toward providing the best shopping experience to the customer. It has witnessed immense success in its national market. By launching a dedicated online store for the Spanish-speaking customers, the client is vying to make its presence felt in the Spanish market.

Objective

The aim was to create a Spanish store for the client to target the Spanish-speaking customer base. This will enable the Romanian cosmetics company to expand its market reach and provide the Spanish-speaking customers with an enhanced shopping experience tailored to their language and preferences. It will also allow the client to offer a seamless and localized shopping experience while maintaining their commitment to high-quality beauty products and customer satisfaction.

Business Needs And Challenges

Language and Localization: The need to create a fully localized Spanish version of the store to cater to the Spanish-speaking customer base, including translations for product descriptions, content, and reviews.
Geo-Redirection: Effectively utilizing Shopify Markets’ language switching and geo-redirection was a challenge, posing issues with accurate redirection and language switching for Spanish customers.
Translation of Content: Managing automatic translation of content from English to Spanish presented significant challenges, with existing apps like Langify and Weglot requiring considerable manual intervention for accurate translations.

Review Translation: Translating and migrating customer reviews from the Romanian store to the new Spanish store proved difficult, as many translation apps did not support review translations or had inaccuracies.
App Limitations: The “Translate and Adopt” app from Shopify failed to deliver accurate translations, limiting the ability to scale the store to meet the needs of Spanish-speaking customers.
Cost of Apps: Many of the translation and localization apps available in the market were expensive, leading to a need for an affordable, scalable solution.

Solutions

To address the challenges and meet business needs, the following approach was adopted:

New Product Store Creation: A new product store was set up specifically for the Spanish market to overcome the limitations of Shopify Markets’ language switching and geo-redirection.
Content Translation Using Deepl: To address the challenges of content translation, the Deepl model was leveraged for accurate translation from English to Spanish. This allowed for efficient, high-quality translations with less manual translation effort.
Catalog Migration via Matrixify: To streamline the migration of product content to the new Spanish store, the Matrixify app was used, allowing for smooth importation of catalog data, including translated product descriptions.

Review Translation and Import: Since review translation was a major obstacle, Deepl was used to translate existing Romanian reviews into Spanish. These translated reviews were then imported into the new store using the Judge.me import feature.
Efficient Translation Management: The combination of Deepl for translation and Matrixify for content import allowed for a seamless and cost-effective localization process.
