About the Client

The client is an education-technology organisation focused on competitive-exam preparation . Their mission is to move coaching away from “one lecture for everyone” to preparation that responds to each aspirant’s strengths and gaps, so serious candidates can make the most of the limited time they have before their exam. Before working with Sigma, the client had strong expertise in exam-pattern analysis and curriculum design, and a clear vision for how personalised preparation should work — but needed a technology partner to turn that vision into a secure, easy-to-use product that could grow with their student base.

Project Overview

Sigma collaborated with the client’s academic and product teams to build an Adaptive Learning System — a single web platform that replaces one-size-fits-all coaching with a preparation experience tailored to each aspirant. The product guides every learner through the competitive-exam syllabus at their own pace, adjusts what they see next based on how they are performing, and gives teachers and content designers the tools they need to keep the question bank and study material fresh, fair and exam-relevant.

The project covered everything from the early product design sessions through the full build, testing, launch and ongoing enhancements. The result is a platform used by aspirants, teachers, content designers and administrators inside the same application.

The Challenge

Competitive exams are unforgiving: the syllabus is large, the time is short, and every aspirant has a different mix of strong topics and weak ones. The client needed a product that could do several things at the same time, and do them well:

Take a competitive-exam syllabus (chapters and topics) and guide each aspirant through it at the right level of difficulty, automatically moving them forward when they are ready and slowing down when they need more practice — so weak topics get attention and strong topics don’t waste their time.
Serve four very different audiences — aspirants who want a clean, focused practice experience; teachers and mentors who want visibility and control; content designers who author high-quality questions and solutions; and administrators who want oversight — all inside the same application.
Let academic authors(content designers) upload questions, solutions and theory directly from Word documents (with images and mathematical formulas) instead of retyping them, and review that content before it reaches aspirants.

Provide an AI tutor that aspirants can talk to when they’re stuck on a problem at midnight, with sensible controls and clear records of every conversation.
Allow teachers and mentors to create custom practice assignments and remedial exercises, assign them to individual aspirants or groups, and see the results.
Support single sign-on with Microsoft 365, so portal users don’t have to manage yet another set of passwords.
Keep everything secure, reliable and easy to maintain as the platform grows across batches and exam cycles.

In short, the client needed a polished consumer-grade product on the outside and a well-engineered platform on the inside.

The Solution

Sigma delivered a complete adaptive learning platform that aspirants, teachers, designers and administrators use through a single web application. The product was built around four simple ideas:

Every aspirant gets their own path. The system tracks how well each aspirant has mastered each topic and uses that to decide what they see next — more practice on the topics they are getting wrong, new material when they are ready to move on.
Teachers and mentors stay in control. They can see each aspirant’s progress, unlock or adjust topics when they need to, and create targeted practice assignments at the click of a button.

Designers build once, reach everyone. Academic authors can upload content from Word, organise it into chapters and topics, and see it flow through a structured review process before it reaches aspirants.
AI helps, but people are in charge. AI tutoring, hints and suggested solutions are available everywhere they add value, but every interaction is logged and every AI-generated piece of content can be reviewed and edited by content designers/teachers.

The platform is a modern web application on the front, with a secure, well-tested service layer on the back. It integrates with Microsoft 365 for sign-in and document access, and with leading AI providers for tutoring and content generation.

Key Project Components

Personalised preparation journey — per-aspirant mastery tracking across every topic; the system auto-decides more practice, next topic, or a theory recap, with teacher overrides.
Adaptive practice zones — comfort, focused-practice and test zones that aspirants move through; teachers tune the time split and designers map topics to zones.
Rich content authoring — upload theory, solutions and question banks from Word (images and math formulas preserved); draft → review → approved workflow before go-live.
AI tutoring and hints — multi-provider AI tutor, hints and worked solutions on demand; every conversation logged for teacher visibility and cost control.
Teacher tools and custom interventions — create custom practice sets, assign as mandatory or optional, manually unlock topics for exceptions, track completion.

Role-based experiences — five roles (aspirant, teacher, designer, senior designer, admin) in one app; senior designers scoped per program and chapter for parallel authoring.
Single sign-on and Microsoft 365 integration — Microsoft SSO, plus OneDrive content rendering without exposing credentials to the browser.
Aspirant engagement and gamification — progress visualisation, streak and milestone badges, program leaderboards, and a study-buddy pairing feature.
Reports, notes and review — saved notes, flagged questions for revision, AI-chat replays; teacher reports at aspirant/batch/program level; admin usage and AI-cost reports.
A solid foundation for the future — modern stack, end-to-end docs and a large automated test suite, so new features ship on a predictable cadence without disruption.

Benefits

A single platform replaces what would otherwise be several disjointed tools — content authoring, aspirant practice, teacher dashboards, AI tutoring, reporting — giving the client a simpler, more defensible product.
Every aspirant gets a personalised preparation journey through the syllabus, with the system reacting in real time to their answers instead of following a fixed schedule.
Content teams author and publish faster. Uploading from Word, reviewing in-app, and editing AI-generated material all happen in one place, cutting the time between “we have new questions” and “aspirants are practising them”.
Teachers and mentors spend less time on administration. Custom practice sets, manual overrides and progress reports that used to take spreadsheets and email now take a few clicks — freeing them to focus on actual teaching.

Content Designers don’t fight the sign-in. Microsoft 365 single sign-on removes a major adoption hurdle, and the OneDrive integration means institutes can bring their existing content with them.
AI is useful without being opaque. The platform uses several AI providers where they add value, but every interaction is logged and every AI-generated item can be reviewed, so administrators can see exactly what AI is doing and what it is costing.
The platform is safe to evolve. A large automated test suite, clear documentation and a disciplined release process mean new features ship regularly without disrupting aspirants in the middle of their preparation.
